The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine formally notified Canada of the completion of the procedure for ratifying the Free Trade Area Agreement between the two countries. It means the completion of the procedure from the Ukrainian side. The information was confirmed by the Ukrainian Embassy in Canada, writes "Ukrinform".

In order for the FTA treaty to come into force, it must now be approved in the third reading by the Canadian Senate and signed by the Governor-General of that country. It is expected that the procedure will take a month. After completion of all ratification procedures, Canada will abolish duties for 99. 9% of the Ukrainian import. In turn, Ukraine will cancel 86% of import duties from Canada.

The FTA treaty was signed on July 11, 2016 during the visit to Kiev of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
