Chisinau court sentenced famous Moldovan businessman Vyacheslav Platon to 18 years for laundering more than 20 billion from Russia through Moldovan banks. Prosecutors demanded 23 years of imprisonment for the accused.

Plato, who was deprived of the right to attend the trial during previous meetings because of insulting judges, was brought to the verdict.

According to the procedure, the court session was closed, but upon announcement of the verdict, access to the courtroom was provided for everyone, including journalists.

Plato was detained in Kiev on July 25, 2016 by the Interpol line. He is accused of stealing from Banca de Economii, which went bankrupt in October 2015, for more than $ 20 million.

He also goes through the so-called case "Landromat" on the withdrawal of more than $ 20 billion from Russia to offshore banks through Moldova's banks.

In particular, Mikhail Gofman, a former employee of the National Center for Combating Corruption, talked about laundering more than 23 billion dollars of Russian origin through Moldovan banks. And the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia announced the withdrawal of 10.9 billion dollars on the "Moldovan scheme" only in 2015.
