A representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said about the "surge of anti-Russian hysteria" in Montenegro, which is caused by the decisions of Podgorica to join NATO, and together with the EU to impose sanctions on Russia. The ministry asked its citizens to take into account the relations between countries when traveling to Montenegro.

In addition, a representative of the Foreign Ministry accused the government of Montenegro of "planting Russophobia".

Earlier, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia complained that the United States was dragging Montenegro into NATO "without taking into account the real opinion of the people of this Balkan country". At the same time, the ministry believes that the country's membership in NATO contradicts its interests and threatens stability in the Balkans and Europe as a whole.
