Russia, most likely, will ignore the decision of the International Court of Justice in The Hague, according to which the ban on the activities of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people should be abolished. However, Ukraine has already won a moral victory, and Russian security forces in the annexed Crimea will now feel less comfortable.
This opinion was expressed by the head of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, People's Deputy from the BCP Refat Chubarov to the publication "Gordon", commenting on the verdict of the court in The Hague.
"Now we understand how to implement the decision of the International Court of Justice and what actions should be taken by the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people. Our lawyers understand all the details. But I think Russia will ignore this court decision. Exactly the same as ignoring all the resolutions and appeals of the international community that were earlier. But in any case, the decision to abolish the ban on the activities of the Mejlis is a moral victory for Ukraine and all Crimean Tatars, "Chubarov said..
According to him, after the decision of the UN court, the investigators and officers of the FSB in Crimea will be wary of falsifying the cases against the Crimean Tatars.
"I do not think that the repression against the Crimean Tatars in the Crimea will now be less. However, Russian investigators and FSB agents will obviously work with caution. They will no longer feel so comfortable. And some of them now think a hundred times before falsifying the cases against the Crimean Tatars, throwing them forbidden literature or ammunition, as well as breaking into houses, breaking doors and windows. At least a number of siloviki will cool their ardor, "- concluded Chubarov.
As reported by the "Observer", the International Court of the United Nations on April 19 announced several decisions in the case on the suit of Ukraine against Russia.
In particular, the court agreed to the introduction of measures on the suit of Ukraine against the Russian Federation regarding the protection of national minorities in the Crimea. The court ordered Russia to ensure the functioning of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people and provide access to instruction in the Ukrainian language on the peninsula.
Also, the court recognized the Crimean Tatars and ethnic Ukrainians living in the occupied peninsula, vulnerable to discrimination.
