German magazine Spiegel learned that the visit to Moscow by German Chancellor Angela Merkel will take place earlier than planned. According to the publication, Merkel will arrive in Russia on May 2. As RIA Novosti writes, in Berlin, the extraordinary visit of the chancellor was justified by the need to prepare for the G20 summit, which will be held in July in Hamburg.

The author of the article in Spiegel notes that the real purpose of Angela Merkel's visit is an attempt to prevent the worst in relations between the West and Russia. German diplomats were extremely concerned about the deterioration of the situation in Donbass. In addition, all the cards in world politics were mixed by the international activity of the new US president, Donald Trump, whose administration has not yet decided on the policy towards Russia, but has already aggravated the sluggish standoff between Moscow and Washington in Syria.

The publication notes that in the Office of the German Chancellor were not ready for the current situation. Berlin seriously feared that Trump could negotiate with Putin over Ukraine behind the Europeans and Merkel, who opposes the abolition of anti-Russian sanctions. However, it turned out on the contrary - Washington has not yet decided on its attitude towards Moscow, which greatly complicates the work of German diplomacy, writes Spiegel.

A source in the federal government of Germany noted the publication that, having come under investigation of its "Russian ties", Trump became incapacitated in everything that could concern Moscow. By the way, Russia also took a wait-and-see attitude, watching the confrontation of its opponents and supporters in Washington.

German politicians consider the existing vacuum to be dangerous. And the postponement of Angela Merkel's visit to earlier dates only confirms their fears.
